Clear Creek Recreation Area

Directions: From Jasper, AL travel north about 5 miles on SR 195. At Manchester turn east (right) and travel about 8 miles on CR 26 to the entrance.

Award Winner! The Frommers Guide to Best RV & Tent Campgrounds in the U.S.A. voted Clear Creek Recreation Area as one of the Best RV Camping, Best Tent Camping, Most Beautiful Campground, Most Private Campsites, Quietest Campground, Most Secure Campground and Most Romantic Campground in Alabama.

Clear Creek offers 102 sites, including double sites, with water and electric.  New this year, upgrades at Clear Creek offer 61 electric sites with 50 amps.  Several sites are fully paved accessible sites.   Modern restrooms have flush toilets and hot showers and are located in each of the four loops:  Hoot Owl, Fox Loop, Bear Loop and Fawn Loop.  A sanitary dump station for RV’s is on site.

All family sites are level and spacious with paved parking spurs, tent pads, picnic tables and fire grills. Many sites have a view of the lake.  Many sites can accommodate RV’s 40 feet in length.  Single sites accommodate up to 6 persons and 2 vehicles; double sites up to 12 persons and 4 vehicles.  2 Group sites are available, and while the group camp area does not have electricity, it does have water available as well as a modern bathhouse complete with showers.

The Federal Golden Age and Golden Access cards may be used for discounts on family campsites.  Two group sites available to rent for large group are located away from family sites and have showers and restrooms.   1.5 miles of wooded hiking trails, and a 1 mile paved bike path along the shoreline to the Day Use Area.

An extensive day use area is located on the lakefront. An entrance fee is required but provides access to:

Three large shelters are equipped with tables and cooking facilities including a large grill and water.  Oak Leaf Shelter has electricity.  Each shelter is available for rental to large groups.  In addition, 53 picnic tables are scattered around the perimeter of the day use area, with a lake view or on the lakefront. A swim beach is a popular spot in the summer.  A bathhouse with showers is nearby.

A boat launch is provided for day use guests and has ample parking.  Water sports such as skiing and fishing are popular on the lake.

Clear Creek also offers 2.5 miles of hiking trails as well as a 1.8 mile paved bicycle trail and a children's playground.

Interpretive Programs are available throughout the summer and often into the fall.  Led by an Interpreter, children will work on crafts, take hikes, watch for bats and learn about creatures that like to camp in the forest too.  These educational programs are designed for children of all ages.  Information about schedules and activities that will happen during your visit is available upon your arrival.

Directions: From Interstate 65 at Cullman travel west on US 278 about 25 miles to CR 57 and turn left to Recreation Area.

Award Winner! Corinth Recreation Area was recently named one of America's Top 100 Campground by the National Recreation Reservation Service.

It was also voted one of the Most Secure Campgrounds by the Frommers Guide to Best RV & Tents Campground in the U.S.A.

Corinth has 52 family campsites each with water, sewer, and 30/50 amp electric service.  Sites are spacious, include paved parking spurs, tent pads, picnic tables and fire grills.  Each camping loop has at least one modern bathhouse complete with showers. There are 8 rustic tent campsites in a wooded area with water available nearby. A modern bathhouse is nearby.  Most can accommodate RV’s over 40 feet in length; and will accommodate up to 6 persons and 2 vehicles.  All sites & restrooms are wheelchair accessible.  The Federal Golden Age and Golden Access cards may be used for discounts on family campsites.

Corinth has a 1.25-mile hiking trail along the shoreline of Smith Lake.  A large day use are is on site.  An entrance fee is required, providing access to:

A picnic shelter for up to 100 persons is available by reservations (fee required).  The shelter is equipped with tables and cooking facilities, including a large grill.  For smaller groups, there are 29 picnic tables in the area for no extra fee.  Swimming is permitted at the sandy beach.  A bathhouse with showers is available.

A boat ramp with parking is available for boating and water skiing. Fishing is allowed on the lake. An Alabama fishing license is required.

Houston offers 76 primitive sites, no hookups available.  Modern Facilities are available.  All family sites are spacious with paved parking spurs, tent pads, picnic tables and fire grills. Lakefront Sites are available.  Many sites can accommodate RV’s 36 feet in length.  Single sites accommodate up to 6 persons and 2 vehicles, and double sites up to 12 persons and 4 vehicles.  The Federal Golden Age and Golden Access cards may be used for discounts on family campsites.  

Houston has a 2-mile hiking trail.  Day Use is also available.  An entrance fee is required but provides access to:  A swim beach is a popular spot in the summer. A bathhouse with showers is nearby.  A boat launch is provided for guests, and ample parking is available. Water-skiing, swimming, and fishing are great on the lake.  A Picnic Pavilion is provided in the Day Use Area.  The shelter is equipped with tables and cooking facilities, including a large grill.

Hardin Ridge Recreation Area

Directions: Located in Monroe County in southern Indiana, 12
miles south of Bloomington. State Road 446 is 2 miles from HRRA.

This newly renovated area has 200 sites many with electric hook-ups. The area offers camping, picnicking, boat launching, swimming nature walks and interpretive programs on the largest lake in Indiana.

Indian-Celina Lake Recreation Area

Directions: Located 3 miles south of I/64 off State Highway 37 in Perry County.

Area has 2 lakes with 63 sites many with electric hook-ups. The area offers camping, electric motor boating, fishing and hiking. Reservations available at 877-444-6777 or at www.recreation.gov.

Tipsaw Lake Recreation Area

Directions: Located 6 miles south of I/64 off State Highway 34 in Perry County

North Carolina

Cascade Lake Recreation Area has more than 160 camping sites on two lakes adjacent to the Dupont State Forest. Most sites have full hook-ups.

The beach and lake area are exclusively for the use of the campers. Boat motors are limited to 12 hp on the lake. Campers can fish, swim, canoe or kayak on the lake. No jet skis are allowed. Pedal boats are available to rent. There is a small convenience store and laundry available on site.

The campground and recreation area are near Pisgah Forest and Brevard, NC. Directions from I-26: Take exit #40 (old exit # 9) off I-26 onto Hwy. 280. Go to Hwy. 64 (east). Go 2.2 miles to Crab Creek Road and turn right (south). Go 2.2 miles to Cascade Lake Road and go right (west) 1.0 miles to Little River Campground Road. Go left to the end of the road.

Black Mountain Campground reopens!

Construction on new restrooms and hot showers, as well as repairing hurricane damaged sites is complete. 

Location: near Burnsville, NC in the shadow of Mount Mitchell (tallest peak in Eastern US). From East: I-40 to Hwy. 226 exit in Marion. Follow 226 to Hwy. 70 West to Hwy. 80 N. to Burnsville. Go under Blue Ridge Parkway about 2 miles to South Toe River. Signs will direct to Campground (3 miles of gravel road).

VAN HOOK GLADE REOPENS! 

Construction is complete on the new restrooms at Van Hook Glade.  New, hot showers are available to campers!

Directions: Near Highlands, NC off I-26, take exit #40 (old exit # 9) and go Hwy. 280 towards Brevard. Take 64W to Highlands-about 1 hour from Brevard. This area is in the beautiful Callasaja Gorge offering breathtaking views of spectacular waterfalls. These campgrounds offer camping, picnic shelters, swimming, fishing and hiking.

Facilities: 21 Primitive Sites each with a picnic table, fire ring with grill, Flush Toilets. Cold showers at Cliffside. Hot Shower at Van Hook.

Area Attractions: Campers' registration valid for entrance to Dry Falls and White Water Falls. Enjoy rafting trips on the Nantahala, and golfing at public golf courses. The Highlands Playhouse provides live theather. Tubing on the Cullasaja and horse back riding in Cullowhee is great outdoor fun. Stroll down Main Street in Highlands for a unique shopping experience.

Directions: Near the PA-NY border, not far from Bradford and Warren, PA. From I/80, take 219 to 321 towards Kane. Highway 321 will lead you to Kiasutha, Red Bridge, Dewdrop and the Ranger Station.

Open: Red Bridge & Twin Lakes open April 15-November 1. All other areas open the Friday before Memorial Day and stay open through Labor Day. Reservations Accepted by calling 877-444-6777 or through www.recreation.gov.. Walk-In Sites available.

Facilities: 90 Sites at Kaisutha; 55 Sites at Red Bridge; and 75 Sites at Dewdrop. Twin Lakes has 51 sites-many with hook-ups. Each campsite has a picnic table, fire ring with grill, parking for one vehicle, and tent or RV area. Education Programs throughout summer

Attractions: Hiking, fishing, and canoeing are popular summer sports, as well the beach and playground for the kids. This area has plenty to offer the entire family. The 600 acre Burgeson Wildlife Sanctuary in Jamestown, NY is only 1-1/2 miles North of the PA-NY state line. In August, attend the Warren County Fair; in September, the Wild Wind Folk Art Festival. These are just a couple of the area's small town events.

Beartree Recreation Area is 7 miles east of Damascus on highway 58, 12 miles south of Grindstone.  From Interstate 81, take exit 19 onto highway 58 to Damascus, then continue 7 miles to the Beartree entrance on the left.

Directions:

Grindstone Campground is located in Smyth County, approximately 22 miles south of Marion, VA, between Konnarock and Troutdale.  From I-81 N, take x35.  Turn right off the exit approximately 10 miles, and take a left onto Hwy 603.  The Grindstone entrance is 5 miles on the right.

Area Attractions: At high peaks, free roaming ponies graze in this almost alpine world. A mountain biker's paradise with some of the best trails in the U.S., including the 33.4 mile Virginia Creeper. Horesback riders will enjoy the many horse camps. A 56 mile scenic byway encircles Mt. Rogers, traveling through the historic town of Abingdon. Take side road VA 600 to the Appalachian Trail and the state's highest road on White Top Mountain (5,570 feet).
