Landscape Management System
In 2004, the Cradle of Forestry Interpretive Association entered into a partnership with Yale University – School of Forestry and Environmental Studies and the University of Washington – School of Forestry with its Rural Technology Initiative to continue to the development of the Landscape Management System a software program designed to aid forest managers and landowners develop management plans for forest lands. A special feature is the ability for LMS to project out into the future, so managers and decision makers can see the impacts of their actions based on forest science.
A USDA Forest Service grant through the Education and Research Consortium of the Western Carolinas is allowing Yale, UW, and CFIA to work on developing a version that can be used in secondary education.
A draft version of the workbook - in Adobe PDF format - is available for download.
We are currently collecting input on the workbook – please feel free to review this material and comment. We anticipate having the Secondary Education version of LMS out by the beginning of 2006.
